I always enjoy coming up with themes for our termly boarders’ Theme Nights and when my eyes caught sight of a copy of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on Emily’s bookcase, I knew this had to be the theme for the autumn term with rainbows and the song ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ featuring so prominently throughout 2020 and the COVID pandemic.

The boarders excelled in their costumes and Mrs Cochand’s brilliant photographs really capture the spirit.  The staff had fun too and our GSAs made a wonderful Dorothy, Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man! I won’t be turning green again any time soon though!

After following the yellow brick road into the dining room and enjoying a delicious meal prepared by Matt and his team, it was time for activities.  These included Rainbow button art, Pin the Heart on the Lion, a Scarecrow hay day challenge and visiting a munchkin (Mr Ambrose) for a treat, or perhaps a trick.  Throughout the evening the boarders had to avoid catching the eye of the Wicked Witch of the West (me!) in order to win a treat.  The boarders were worryingly good at ignoring me when I called out to them, I will clearly have to try harder next time!

My thanks go to all the staff for their help in running the activities and to the children for embracing our theme.
