Ancient Egypt has always been a fascinating topic for both children and adults alike. It’s no wonder that our Reception Class has been thrilled to learn about the Egyptians, their customs, traditions, and hieroglyphics.

Egyptian Hieroglyphics

The children were amazed to find out how the Egyptians communicated through their written language and hieroglyphics, and how they used it to record history and stories. To make learning more fun and interactive, our Reception Class was given the task to write their names in hieroglyphics. They were excited to learn the symbols for each letter of their name and how to arrange them to spell their name correctly.

They learned about the importance of the pharaohs and their beliefs. They were fascinated to learn that the pharaohs were mummified and kept in a sarcophagus, adorned with intricate and ornate designs.

To give the children a hands-on experience in creating a sarcophagus, the Reception Class were tasked with creating their own Egyptian sarcophagus class. Working in groups, they used their creativity and imagination to design and decorate their very own sarcophagus. They worked tirelessly, painting and decorating their masterpieces.

Learning about the Egyptians and their hieroglyphics has been a fantastic experience for our Reception Class. By giving the children hands-on experience with the sarcophagus project, they were able to gain a deeper understanding of the topic and have fun while learning. It’s these types of learning experiences that make education engaging, interactive, and memorable. We can’t wait to see what topic our Reception Class tackles next!
