Recently, Year 4 and our Year 8 ESOL group seized the opportunity to make the most of the glorious weather and headed outside to draw the Manor. The experience proved to be both educational and inspiring.

Stepping out of the traditional classroom setting, the students embraced the open air and set up with their sketchbooks. With the majestic main school building standing tall before them, they began their artistic journey. But this wasn’t just any ordinary drawing session – it was an exploration of proportions and scale.

The young artists took their time to observe the building, considering its various elements and how they related to one another. They carefully examined the structure, paying attention to the dimensions, angles, and relationships between different architectural features. Through this process, they gained an understanding of how proportions and scale play a crucial role in creating a balanced and visually appealing composition.

Rather than rushing into adding intricate details, the children exercised patience and discipline. They grasped the concept that building a strong foundation through proportion and scale would ultimately lay the groundwork for an impressive finished piece. With this mindset, they proceeded to capture the essence of the main school building on paper, focusing on the overall structure and layout.

Year 4 and ESOL Art Sketching

As the session neared its end, the budding artists added the finishing touches, embellishing their drawings with intricate details. Windows, doors, and other distinctive elements came to life, infusing their artwork with a sense of realism and authenticity. The end results were truly remarkable, reflecting the students’ newfound understanding of composition and their ability to translate their observations onto paper.
