Today is World Poetry Day (21st March 2023)

What is World Poetry Day?

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) first adopted World Poetry Day during its 30th General Conference in Paris in 1999. This was with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard. (Evening Standard, 2023)

What better way to celebrate than by sharing poems written by children across different year groups at school? These young poets have put their hearts and souls into their work, and we are excited to showcase their talent.

First up is our amazing Reception class who wrote this piece about their experience of chicks hatching and how it signals new beginnings and the start of Spring

Here is Vhukhudo in Year 4 with her fantastic poem:

Our Amazing Year 5s:

Noah – If I had Fins

Thomas – If I Had Fins

Alice – The River

Evie – If I Had Fins

These poems are just a sample of the amazing talent our students have. It is evident that they have worked hard to create these pieces and their passion for poetry is evident in their performances.

At Forres Sandle Manor we encourage creativity and self-expression in all forms, and poetry is no exception. It is a powerful tool that can help students explore their emotions, thoughts, and ideas in a unique and personal way.

As we celebrate World Poetry Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the power of words and the beauty of poetry. These young poets have reminded us of the importance of imagination, creativity, and expression, and we are excited to see what they will create next.
