FSM Year 5 pupil Harry came second this year in the Rudyard Kipling ‘Just so’ schools competition with his story “How the Ostrich Got His Neck”.
The competition (formally known as The John Slater Competition) is to encourage creative writing and run by The Kipling Society. Stories need to be around 500 and inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s stories for children. The entries are all judged on their use of plot, character, language, enjoyment and originality.
The judges said that Harry’s story is: “An intelligent and vigorously told story that reads like a convincing work of natural history. The central image of the Ostrich trying to shake off a squiggly wiggly rock snake wrapped around his neck is both alarming and very funny.”
